Debbie's Story

Debbie and her five children have lived in supported housing since 2006.

“For six years, we lived in a mobile home. The furnace broke, and I couldn’t afford to fix it; the walls leaked when it rained. Finally, I couldn’t even pay the rent.

“Youth Services and the New Foundation Center came into our lives like angels; now, we are blessed. They not only got us the house, they bought us everything else: a kitchen table, a dining room set, a living room couch and chairs, sheets, wastebaskets, dishes, beds for me and the kids — I hadn’t had my own room since 1994.

“Since we’ve been here, I’ve been careful about keeping our home. I go to the Center when I can — for group therapy that helps with my anxiety and depression, to see my friends, to go to the theater or out to dinner — all the things I couldn’t do before.”
